These include<\/b>:<\/p>\n<p><b>Personal Qualities and Attributes<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commitment to Diversity and Integrity \u2013 understands and respects diversity and adopts a fair and ethical approach in all situations.<\/li>\n<li>Openness to Change \u2013 is open to change and actively seeks to support it.<\/li>\n<li>Confidence and Resilience \u2013 maintains a confident and resilient attitude in highly challenging situations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Working with Others \u2013 works effectively with others both within the Fire and Rescue Service and in the community.<\/li>\n<li>Effective Communication \u2013 communicates effectively both orally and in writing.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Development \u2013 committed to and able to develop self and others.<\/li>\n<li>Problem Solving \u2013 understands, recalls, applies and adapts relevant information in an organised, safe and systematic way.<\/li>\n<li>Situational Awareness \u2013 maintains an active awareness of the environment to promote safe and effective working.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence \u2013 Adopts a conscientious and proactive approach to work to achieve and maintain excellent standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Physical Tests<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ladder Climb<\/li>\n<li>Casualty Evacuation<\/li>\n<li>Ladder Lift \/ Lower Simulation<\/li>\n<li>Enclosed Spaces<\/li>\n<li>Equipment Assembly<\/li>\n<li>Equipment Carry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Psychological Tests<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The tests are split in to the following two categories:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li><b>National Firefighter Psychological Tests<\/b>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Working with Numbers<\/li>\n<li>Understanding Information<\/li>\n<li>Situational Awareness and Problem Solving<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>National Firefighter Questionnaire<\/b>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Working with Others \u2013 works effectively with others both within the Fire Service and the community.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Diversity and Integrity \u2013 understand and respects diversity and adopts a fair and ethical approach to others.<\/li>\n<li>Confidence and Resilience \u2013 maintains a confident and resilient attitude in highly challenging situations.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence \u2013 adopts a conscientious and proactive approach to work to achieve and maintain excellent standards.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Development \u2013 committed to and able to develop self and others.<\/li>\n<li>Situational Awareness \u2013 maintains an active awareness of the environment to promote safe and effective working.<\/li>\n<li>Openness to Change \u2013 is open to change and actively seeks to support it within the Fire Service and in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Medical Tests<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical Records and Questionnaires \u2013 your medical records will be requested, and a medical screening form will need to be completed before further tests are permitted<\/li>\n<li>Hearing Test \u2013 you will sit in a sound proof booth wearing headphones and will be asked to press a button when you hear a range of sounds.<\/li>\n<li>Step Test \u2013 you will be asked to step up and down on a box whilst your heart rate is monitored and the rate of step is gradually increased. (May vary in different FRS\u2019s)<\/li>\n<li>Lung Function \u2013 you will be asked to blow hard and long down a hollow tube until all your lung capacity is fully exhaled \u2013 a reading is taken and assessed accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>Physical Stamina \u2013 you will be asked to squat on a machine designed to test your back and thigh strength and then pull a specified measurement.<\/li>\n<li>General Tests \u2013 you will finally see the doctor who will test your reflexes and discuss your medical questionnaire with you.<\/li>\n<li>Chest X-Ray \u2013 some FRS\u2019s will send you to the local hospital for a chest x-ray.<\/li>\n<li>Eyesight Tests \u2013 various vision and colour tests will be carried out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you still think becoming a firefighter is for you, then visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fireservice.co.uk\/\">UK Fire Services website<\/a> where you\u2019ll find a wealth of information for firefighters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What little child doesn\u2019t dream of growing up to become Fireman Sam and rescue cats from tall trees?
